Random Drug & Alcohol Testing

Federally Mandated/DOT Regulated Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs

Through Omega Medical Center’s Drug and Alcohol Management Program, employers can fulfill their drug and alcohol testing requirements specified by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Our own proprietary Drug and Alcohol Management software calculates the number of random drug and alcohol tests that must be performed to meet the DOT minimum requirements. Employers with a small number of covered positions will be aggregated with other companies into a consortium pool.

All agencies that are part of the following organizations are required to be in this type of program, which selects employees for urine drug screens and breath alcohol testing based on industry requirements:

  • DOT – Department of Transportation
  • FAA – Airlines
  • FTA – Transit
  • RSPA – Pipeline
  • FRA – Railroad
  • USCG – Coast Guard/Merchant Marine
  • FMCSA – Federal Motor Carriers with:
    • A vehicle with a gross weight of 26,001 pounds or more
    • A vehicle designed to carry 16 or more passengers, including the driver
    • A vehicle of any size and weight that is used to transport hazardous materials

Non-Mandated/Non-Regulated Drug and Alcohol Testing Program

We also offer Non-Mandated/Non-Regulated Drug and Alcohol Testing through the same software used in the Federally Mandated/DOT Regulated management program. In this case, the program is customized to the company’s specific policy. The company may specify:

  • How often selections are made
  • How many employees are selected
  • If both drug and alcohol testing are to be performed

Since these tests are not mandated, there are no specific rules stating how many employees are to be tested. The number depends on the individual company’s policy.
